Jets vs. Panthers Analysis

At first glance, this line seems a little fish. The Jets are the worst team in the league. The line is basically a pick 'em since the Jets are at home. The Panthers are simply the better team, despite my low opinion of Bryce Young. Both teams have solid run games and both stink at passing, especially the Jets. Justin Fields is simply not an NFL QB. Yes, he can make things happen with his legs, but he's a poor man's Lamar Jackson, since he can't throw the ball. I think the Jets would be better with Tyrod Taylor under center. Both teams are near the bottom in turnover differential (Jets are deadlast), and both rank in the bottom 3 in sacks. This game should feature lots of running, which gobbles up the clock. The Panthers have won 3 of their last 4 games, and are trending in the right direction, while the Jets seem to be playing worse and worse every week. Looking at the GAI models, the various moneyline models have the Panthers winning between 53%-60%. The team score models has the game projections at 18-15 in favor of the Panthers. I'm on the Panthers Moneyline and Under 41 points.

Eagles vs. Vikings Analysis

It's hard to call a team that is 4-2 a disappointment, but for the defending Super Bowl Champs, people expecting more from the Eagles. Granted they did lose pieces of their offensive line and on defense, which is being reflected in their performance. The most shocking thing about the Eagles this season has been their lack of a run game. After Saquon Barkley's record setting season last year, he's averaging a pedestrian 3.4 yards per carry and 54 yards per game. This is being driven by a few factors, 1) his offense line is not the elite unit that they were last year, so the holes aren't there, and he is second worst in the league in getting tackled for a loss, 2), he's not breaking and bouncing off tackles, averaging just 1.5 yards after contact, 3rd worst for a starting RB in the league. The Vikings run defense ranks in the bottom 10, so this should be a great spot for Saquon to have a breakout game. On the other side, I don't think much of this Vikings team. Aside from the one game against the Bengals, where Jake Browning handed them 21 points, they have looked average at best. Carson Wentz is not a good QB, even with all of his receiving weapons. The Vikings defensive numbers against the pass are solid, #2 in the league, but 2 of their wins game against Jake Browning and Dillon Gabriel. The Vikings haven't faced a pro-bowl QB or elite offense yet. The spread model predicts the Eagles with a 66% chance to cover the spread. The team scoring model has a projection of 19-18 in favor of the Eagles, which suggests value on the Under 43.5. I see this being something like a 27-13 game in favor of the Eagles. I'm on the Eagles -1.5 and Under 43.5.
