Another battle of 2 Jekyll and Hyde teams tonight. The Dolphins, winners of 5 of their last 6 games, handily beat the Bills, Falcons, and Jets, but got steam rolled by the Ravens and Browns. The Steelers, with wins over the Ravens, Colts, and Bengals, also got whipped by the Bills and Chargers. The Steelers are really thin at Left Tackle. Starting LT Broderick Jones was injured in Week 12, and is out for the season. Backup, Andrus Peat, suffered a concussion last week and is out this week. Third stringer, Calvin Anderson, got hurt in practice this week, and is out. Their banged up offensive line just promoted a guy from the practice squad who has never played a down in the NFL. It could be a rough night for Aaron Rodgers if his protection doesn't hold up. On the other side of the ball, the Steelers will be without star defensive player, T.J. Watt. This loss will greatly impact the Steelers ability to stop Dolphins RB De'Von Achane, and put pressure on Tua. The Steelers are a bottom 5 defense in terms of yards per game, and struggle against both the pass and run, and now without Watt, they will be even worse. Both these offenses rank in the bottom 10, but the big difference is their run game. The Dolphins have a top 10 run game, while the Steeler rank 4th to last. Based on the metrics, I honestly don't understand why the Steelers are favored, other than the fact that they are at home, and the weather will be cold (in the teens). The only way the Steelers should win this game is if they dominate the turnover battle, which they could. The Steelers rank to top 5 in turnover margin, and a lot of their winning games have come because of this; forcing 5 turnovers in their win over the Patriots, 2 in their win over the Bengals, and 6 in their win over the Bengals. Tua certainly has the potential to have a Hawk Tua type of game with multiple turnovers, but as long as he avoids those, I think the Dolphins should cover and possibly even win. 100% of the new GridironAI spread models like the Dolphins to cover with 3.
